Pumpkins and Zombies

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I had a very exciting night. Mom and Dad decided at the last minute to go downtown and see a bunch of carved pumpkins like ours and watch a parade.

Mom and Dad went to a college called "Transylvania." Since it was founded, the name has also become famous because it's where Dracula lives. So Transy loves Halloween. The latest festivity added is called "Pumpkin Mania." 250 students, faculty, and friends carved pumpkins and they put them on the steps of the administration building. It's also the building that has a real life tomb.

My dad, me, and Mom

After we looked at all the pumpkins (and I sniffed a few other doggies there), we went further downtown to the Thriller parade. This isn't any old parade. The people are all dressed as zombies (whatever those are) and they dance to Michael Jackson's (whoever he is) song "Thriller." Only one isn't a zombie and he's dressed like Michael.

That's Michael

And these are zombies.

I got a little nervous because there was a big crowd for the parade. But Mom and Dad bent down and gave me lots of pets and everyone else standing with us gave me a little room to wander. I also sniffed a dog dressed as a skeleton a lot! It made me excited to put on my costume tonight!

Pumpkins

We did something very exciting tonight. Tonight my mommy carved a pumpkin!

Mom and Dad bought a pumpkin last year, but never got around to carving it. In fact, Mom says they've bought pumpkins since before me and this was the first year they've ever carved it!

I wasn't quite sure what to do, so I hung out with my dad. Someone had to supervise the roasting of the seeds.

Mom wanted to get a picture of me with the pumpkin. The tiles isn't even in the kitchen, so the chair as all wobbly and I did. not. like. it.

This is the pumpkin on our porch.

The pumpkin is scary without lights!

Mom said Monday will be a big test for me because the doorbell is going to ring a lot. Kids will say "Trick or Treat!" and she'll give them candy. I don't understand that. They should have to sit or stay or shake before they get a treat like I do!

More Strange

Just to add to the weird things lately...Something's wrong with Dad's dog transporter. The seats are different, the dashboard is all crazy, and he can open the ceiling! I hope Halloween gets over soon, so things can go back to normal!

Strange

The strangest thing happened today. Mommy put me in jail, like she always does when she leaves the house. I heard the garage door open, the car start, and the garage door close again. Then it was silent. That's when I start barking. I find it keeps me busy until Mom comes home. Sometimes Mom likes to fool me into not barking by not actually leaving. I know, she's such a mean mommy.
Except today. I heard all of that and just as I was getting going, I heard, "AAA! No Mister!" in my mommy's voice! Say wha-? I got quiet to listen a little more and I heard "Good boy, Mister. That's my good boy!" This was weird. A little bit later, I started up again and AGAIN I heard "AA! Mister, hush!" Whoa. I think my mommy has spies, but I still can't figure out how she got her voice home...maybe Mommy's studying to be a ventriloquist.

Molly

Remember how I said it was the greatest weekend ever? Well it didn't stop with a trip to Grandma's! And yes, I did get lots and lots of treats for being so good at the reunion...so many in fact, that I puked them up before the mouse excitement. Luckily it was mostly pretzels and easy for Mommy to clean up :)

After we came home, my mommy got a message from a friend that she and her dog were going to the Arboretum on the University of Kentucky's campus. Would we like to join? I gave Mommy my sad puppy dog eyes and begged and pleaded and she finally said, "Of course!" YAY, MOMMY!

This is the entrance to the Arboretum. The weather was sunny and cool, but not cold, so there were lots of people enjoying the outside. Kids are playing on the hay bales in front of the water tower.

This is my new bestest friend, Molly. She's my mommy's friend's dog. She's a rescue just like me and has lots of energy! She loved being outside. She's a little scared near other dogs, but I helped her with that a little.

Molly got tired and decided to take a rest

Finally we decided we needed a water break. Mommy didn't think that far ahead, but Molly let me share hers.

I had a great time at the Arboretum and I loved meeting Molly and her mommy. I hope I get to play with them again soon!

Family Reunion

Hi friends!
Sorry for the silence lately. We've been very busy around here. This was the greatest weekend ever! I finally got to go back to Grandma's house! Usually, when the people bring out the duffel bag, that means we go there. But lately, we've been going every where else. That makes me sad because both my grandma's spoil me even more than Mom and Dad.

We went to Grandma's because Daddy had a family reunion. The best part? Well, besides the neighborhood kitties that hung out on Grandma's porch (which I didn't really pay attention to at all), was that I ended up being invited! Since it was being held inside a church, Mom and Dad thought I wouldn't be allowed and would have to stay in my crate at my great-grandma's. Phooey on that. I still had to hang out in my crate, but only when the 2-legged puppies started to arrive and while everyone was eating.

Me in my crate :(

How many humans does it take to figure out the oven?

The delicious smelling food. Mawmaw snuck me some ham when they were cleaning up. So I can verify that it tasted delicious, too!

Everyone going through the line

Standing around after and taking pictures

The older puppies decided to play some ball

Me and my mommy

No weekend is complete without my morning big bed snuggles!

My mom and dad were very proud of me this weekend. I only whined a little bit in my crate and that was when everyone was filling their plates. I just wanted to make sure they saved me some! I don't have a lot of experience with 2-legged puppies, so my parents watched me and them very carefully. They all were pretty nice about gentle hands and loving on my side and not the top of my head. One liked to chase me, but when I actually hid, they made him stop.

The best story was when we got back to Grandma's. Well, maybe not the best, because I puked once we got home. Everyone was so proud of me, I got a lot of pretzels...maybe a few too many :) But no. The best part was Mom and I were laying on Uncle Ryan's bed and Dad and Uncle Ryan were hanging out with us. Mom looked over and saw a mouse. She directed Dad and Uncle Ryan to where it was and they watched and saw it too. That's when Grandpa got a trap out. He put peanut butter on it to catch the mouse. I wasn't allowed to have any. Boo. I guess it's because I puked a little before. Mom was proud of me again because during all of the commotion, I never even tried to chase it...or even really noticed it. In the morning, Grandpa said the mouse was gone. That's sad. I would have liked to bring him home for a pet!

Smile Day

Today is an important day. Today is World Smile Day! I think I've shared this before, but before Mom and Dad came for me to live with them forever, my name was a little bit longer. Or a little bit shorter depending on how many of my names they feel like using that day. Humans are so strange.
Anyway, my name was Mister Smiley because I always had a grin on my face.

This is me on our patio.

And this was over the summer at my great-grandma's house. We were waiting on a parade to start!

Head over to Sugar's blog and find his and some other great puppy dog smiles!

Gatlinburg

I had a great weekend. My people got their duffel bag thing out. I love when that thing appears. It means we're going somewhere. It made me nervous the first time I saw it because I thought my people were going somewhere without me and I'd be all alone and sad. Lucky, that's not the case and whenever my people travel, I get to go along! Yay!

I was hoping we'd go to Grandma's (either one would do. They both love me). But we didn't go to Grandma's. I thought we'd go to Canada since the people kept using that "cabin" word. It's a long drive, but there are so many squirrels to watch. But we didn't go to Canada either. We went to this place called "Gatlinburg." It's in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and just a few hours from my house. We only went for the weekend and spent most of the time doing what we do best--watching football and napping! We did some walking around our cabin though. Never saw bears, like we were told lived nearby. We did see what we think was bear #2, but I knew well enough to leave it alone. I had a hard time keeping an eye on my people in a new place. I needed a vacation by the time we came home!

We have pictures of the cabin, but Mommy's computer is holding them hostage.
